The musicians Liz Erber and Heiko Michels countered the hardening discourse on Jewishness with the subtle argument of meandering, meandering sounds of secular Jewish music. With duo singing between intoxicated chutzpah and warm melancholy. With violin and non-classical concert guitar between classical, pop, psychoacoustic and gipsy tango. The programme includes catchy Yiddish songs, playful and ecstatic instrumental variations on klezmer themes and Ladino canciones, in the Judeo-Spanish of the Sephardic Jews, which are rather unknown in this country. The audience is allowed (but not obliged) to join in with some of the arrangements.
Liz Erber, American violinist, dancer and choreographer, long director of K77 in Berlin, is currently creating a large-scale cultural venue on a hill above the East Brandenburg border town of Oderberg. She regularly performs Scottish music at the Ufa-Fabrik and as a dancer on countless stages between Seattle and Berlin.
Heiko Michels has performed on hundreds of music stages between Paris and Berlin as guitarist of the German-French chanson duo scorbüt and regularly directs theatre productions at the Theater im Delphi Berlin and many other venues such as the Thalia Theater Hamburg, the Muffathalle Munich and the rbb-Sendesaal.
